Ruben's RUBEN'S An all-time island favorite amongst locals and visitors alike, Ruben’s restaurant is a must-try while you’re on Isla Mujeres, with delicious and affordable Mexican food, in an intimate and cozy environment! With a change of location in 2024, you can now find Ruben's on the island's main bar and restaurant strip Avenida Hidalgo, close to the main square. There is also a second location in the mid-island neighborhood of La Gloria, in the old location of Taqueria Cachirul, opposite the Salina. With both indoor air-conditioned seating, and outdoor seating you can enjoy good service, and delicious, inexpensive food and drinks. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the menu includes some favorite Mexican and Tex-Mex options, as well as seafood, pasta, tacos, and much more. Ruben’s restaurant was created by Ruben Chavez Martinez, a well-known member of the community here on Isla Mujeres, because of his big heart, always there for the children of Isla Mujeres, and the adults also in need. Ruben Chavez Martinez passed away in September 2020 after hospitalization due to Covid-19 with underlying health issues. He is missed! Casa Diego CASA DIEGO Casa Diego, opened in April 2025, is a welcoming breakfast spot in downtown Isla Mujeres, located between the main square and the bank CiBanamex, just a short walk from the ferry. The entrance can be easy to miss, so look for the rattan style sunshades above the doorway, between the shops. The space includes a peaceful outdoor garden area, next to a covered open air dining section, creating a calm and comfortable setting. In January 2026, Casa Diego opened a rooftop space, with live music some evenings. The menu offers a variety of breakfast options, including eggs benedict, motuleños, chistorra-scrambled eggs, smoothie bowls, chia pudding, fruit plates, bagels, avocado toast, omelets, and chilaquiles. For those with a sweet tooth, there are hotcakes, waffles, and a popular French toast. Drinks include fresh juices, coffee, and tea. On the street Calla Macabi, this is the perfect spot for those staying close by who are looking for a drink and some snacks in the area, and don't want to venture down to the end of Sac Bajo. Tucked away at the very end of Isla Mujeres’ Sac Bajo peninsula, we promise it is worth the ten-minute drive! This is one of the island’s smaller and quieter bars, it is perfect for when you want to relax with a cold drink, but without the hubbub of the more bustling areas. What makes this bar truly special? … The answer is the owners who you will surely meet when you visit.
