On June 2nd, the people of Isla Mujeres voted in the elections for their mayor, and Atenea Gomez Ricalde emerged as the winner, the same lady who has been doing outstanding work for the town for the three last years.
With over 80% of the votes, Atenea Gomez Ricalde is also the most-voted candidate in the state of Quintana Roo, securing a total of 12,016 votes out of 14,947 in the entire poll for the municipality of Isla Mujeres.
Atenea Gomez Ricalde has been instrumental in restoring peace and safety for the families of Isla Mujeres. She also initiated the cleanup of the town in the initial days of her administration in 2021. And additionally, she has enhanced the beauty of various locations on the island, such as the sculptures on the Caribbean side of the island and the newly paved streets.
You may have also noticed the number of children's playgrounds that she has revitalized. Families are delighted with these areas to enjoy with their kids.
What's next for Isla Mujeres?
Isla Mujeres’ president, Atenea Gomez Ricalde, is focused on the government and society working together to further develop the island. Her plans include additional paved roads, sports areas, playgrounds, street lighting, safety for everyone, as well as efforts to get all electric wires underground. Furthermore, she aims to address the lack of services by demanding that the water and electric companies provide services.
Additionally, Hacienda Mundaca will soon reopen as a cultural space for children and youth.
